When you are picking out a hosting company, there are a lot of different things to consider. You have to look at site speed, security, customer service and then all of the “extras”.
Daily website backups, for some reason, fall into that last category. Personally and professionally, I believe it’s something every host should offer, but unfortunately it’s not.
The Benefits of Daily Website Backups
- If you update your a plugin and something breaks, you can easily revert back to a previous version.
- If you are making changes and totally mess up your design, you can easily revert back to a previous version.
- If your website gets hacked, you can easily revert back to a previous version. (then make sure everything is up to date and change those passwords)
- If anything else goes wrong on your website, you can easily revert back to a previous version.
You get my point.
Hosting Companies That Offer Daily Website Backups
Below you’ll find a list of WordPress hosting companies that offer daily website backups. This list includes companies I’ve personally worked with and recommend.
WP ENGINE – A top of the line managed WordPress hosting company that stores backups offsite on the Amazon S3 server. Backups are automatically scheduled nighly, but you can take manual checkpoint backups as needed as well.
CLOUDWAYS – A budget managed WordPress hosting company that automatically creates nightly backups of your site and holds those backups for one week by default. Cloudways gives you the option to change the scheduled time of your website, and also to change the backup retention to 2 weeks, 3 weeks or 4 weeks. It also allows you to create on demand backups.
SITEGROUND – Siteground is typically used for shared hosting and creates backups automatically overnight for each account. It keeps each backup for a total of 30 days and also allows a limited number of on demand backups every month.
KINSTA – Kinsta is a managed WordPress provider that offers automatic daily website backups on all of it’s plans, five manual backups each month and they retain them for a minimum of 14 days. They also offer hosting upgrades for hourly updates and offsite backups to Amazon S3 or Google Cloud.
IN MOTION – In Motion allows automatic backups on their VPS and Dedicated Hosting Plans. They do limit your storage space, so they recommend downloading your backups and storing them on an external drive or local computer.
P.S. I don’t recommend your hosting company being your ONLY backup source, as servers can go down and power outages can result in lost content. But, I do recommend they be one of two backups utilized in your monthly WordPress maintenance plan.
P.S.S. Some of the links above are affiliate links and if you choose to use one of the links, I do get a small kickback. For most of them, you get something as well! That said, I did not include any hosting companies that I would not recommend to a client. There are some really crappy hosting companies out there, and some of them do offer daily website backups. I did not list those, I wouldn’t do that to you.
